REDMI NOTE 8
Xiaomi's Redmi series phones have always offered great value for money to consumers. They are quintessential mainstream phones: good, solid hardware paired with an attractive design and priced for affordability. But even by the Redmi Note standards, Xiaomi has managed to form the Redmi Note 8 series better. I recently reviewed the Redmi Note 8 Pro. This is a phone that looks good, clicks great pictures, and offers blazing fast performance and long-lasting battery life. In other words, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is one among the simplest phones you'll buy under Rs 15,000. The Redmi Note 8 is almost equally good when you consider its price, and that makes it one of the best phones to buy under Rs 10,000.
Just like the Pro variant, the Note 8 also offers consumers lag-free performance, an attractive metal and glass design, long-lasting battery life and a fairly capable set of cameras.
Looks great
The design of the Redmi Note 8 is inspired by the Redmi Note 7. It picks up where the predecessor left. We at India Today Tech reviewed the Redmi Note 7 that launched earlier this year. In the full review of the Note 7, i discussed that it's one among the simplest looking Redmi Note from Xiaomi. The latest Redmi Note 8 is a polished version of the Redmi Note 7 as far as the design is concerned. The edges of the Note 8 are curvier when compared to the Note 7 and that makes it easy for users to hold and use the phone.
The Redmi Note 8 comes in three colour options -- Neptune Blue, Space Black and Moonlight White. I'm using the Neptune Blue colour. I personally prefer phones in black or white or another bold colours but the Neptune Blue of the Note 8 appears to be pretty decent to me. It is slightly shiny but I believe most people will like that.
The Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front and the back adds to the overall design of the smartphone. The glass body makes the affordable smartphone look expensive, classy and premium for its price. On the back, the four camera lenses add a sort of break to the design, which takes away the coherency. But not too much because overall I feel the phone looks fairly graceful neat.
The chin of the Redmi Note 8 is pretty thick but that will not cause any problem as Xiaomi has used its design tricks to hide it. The Neptune Blue colour of the Redmi Note 8 includes mix a blue and black on the chin also as on side bezels. This not just hides the thick bezels but also makes the smartphone look appealing.
The Redmi Note 8 also features a propriety factor. It is easy to use the phone with one hand, which wasn't the case with the Note 8 Pro as it was a big phone. Another good bit about the smartphone is its lightweight. The Note 8 Pro is slightly heavy but the Note 8 weighs less and that makes it easy for the users to use the smartphone comfortably.
Screen is bright in all situations
The Redmi Note 8 comes with an LCD IPS panel that measures 6.3-inches. It offers screen resolution of 2280 x 1080p (FHD+). The screen of the Redmi Note 8 isn't just big but is additionally bright enough altogether lighting situations. I used the Redmi Note 8 to watch videos on YouTube and movies on Amazon Prime Video and play games. I also browsed social media apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter on the phone. In all situations - be it in adieu light and low light - the screen of Redmi Note 8 seems to be great. The screen gets pretty bright and successively offers great user experience. The smartphone offers great viewing angles. Keeping the bright around 50 per cent inside a room worked for me while in outdoor situations I had to scale up the brightness level to 100 per cent for good viewing experience.
Best camera phone under Rs 10,000
Similar to the Redmi Note 8 Pro the Note 8 also comes with quad rear camera setup. The Redmi Note 8 sticks to the same 48MP primary camera that was seen on the Redmi Note 7. By default the Redmi Note 8 clicks pictures in 12MP image resolution. The phone also includes an 8MP ultrawide lens, 2MP depth sensor and 2MP marco lens.
For a phone priced at Rs 9,999 the Redmi Note 8 click stunning images in good light. The phone struggles to capture detailed photos in low-light, although the Night Mode helps here. With the night mode switched on the Redmi Note 8 camera captures more light and that results in brighter and better-looking pictures in low-light situations.
